2008 Recruiting Wars

_ Thanks T. We fans want to know things and I guess many gauge recruiting success by the early "straw polls". I don't like to "count my chickens until they hatch", either. And it stinks to think you own the goose that laid the golden egg, only to find out it's gonna go into labor on someone else's pond.

I know some of the local commits are being pressured to take visits to some schools, but I think they are pretty solid with UL and turning such offers down. The coaches seem to be doing a great job of staying in touch and following up with in home visits. I think that helps in fighting off the late-comers, but you never really know until that fax prints out of the fax machine on signing day.

They are still holding his offer for him, we shall see what happens. It happens to all of us at this level including SLU, Tech took a few at the end last year. You guys might want to keep an eye on Zeke Jones, if Tech offers he will be gone.

Article says former UL OC Blake Anderson (now at USM) snaked him from us. If true, that's pretty low. I know, I know, all's fair in love and recruiting. But still ...

Hope he will be happy wherever he ends up. Looks like some solid players committed after him, that sometimes has an effect as well.

Sowell, Lewis-Buchanan give verbals to UL For its two most recent football commitments, UL dipped into the deep talent pools in Texas and Florida. Nathan Sowels, a defensive back/kick returner from Pinkston High in Dallas, and Devon Lewis-Buchanan, a safety/linebacker from Suncoast High in Riviera Beach, Fla., committed last weekend to sign with the Ragin' Cajuns. The earliest they can sign a binding letter of intent is Feb. 6. In addition to playing football, Sowels will also run track at UL. "He felt good about the football program and the track program," Pinkston coach James Argenti said of Sowels, who visited UL's campus in November. "(After his visit) he just wanted to give it some time to talk it over with his family. I know there was a need at cornerback and a need for speed (at UL)." Look for word that Kyron Benoit an athlete out of Crowley High has committed to the Cajuns. He was offered to play weak side linebacker or maybe safety. Kyron played quarterback in high school but is a kid who has a very nice frame and is athletic.

Blake Anderson is not recruiting Duhon, it is another coach on the staff. Anderson has actually agreed not to recruit any of the Cajun prospects that they were already on when he took the position. In fact, he told the Curry family that he would not recruit Tim for USM. So Blake has not gone back on his word and nothing is done with Duhon officially.
