Dean will need to put on more weight to handle 300+ lb. interior linemen and that will only make him slower. Who else was recruiting him? What is the upside to a 6 ft. slow DT? Bustle keeps recruiting huge OL but needs to seriously beef up the defense. Glazer is a great start. And, we seem to have a few DT & DE coming back from last year. But, our DEs are always too light at under 235 lbs. and we never have a pass rush. I thought our #1 priority this year was DL, but so far 80% of our recruits are on offense. _
Dean actually ran a 4.8 or 4.9, so he is quicker then those pre-season times. The kid had 18 sacks this past season, that would lead you to believe that he is quicker then 5.3. There is a kid that was about the same size as Dean, and he signed with an out of state program last year. He was listed at 6-0, 290, but was really about 5-11,290. No state program offered this kid,not even the Cajuns. Guess what, he started his freshman this year at Arizona State, his name is Jonathan English. It depends on what you are asking from a three Tech DT, but Dean has plenty of pontential to play that position. Don't get caught up in size, if the athlete has potential. Don't forget that one of the best DT's in Sun Belt history was Brandon Kennedy from North Texas. He was about 5-10,330 lbs. We need kids that can play, Dean has that potential.

I've never been too worried about the 40 yard dash time of an interior defensive lineman. I don't expect them to run more than 10 yards forward or side to side in 98% of the plays. A better question would be if he's quick off the line, how well does he shed blocks, and can he hold his position when he's double teamed to clog up the running lanes.

Has anyone ever seen Big Fat Sam Adams? My fat ass could probably run the 100 yd dash faster than he could run the 40 and he's been able to make millions because he could do the things Amos is talking about, namely fire off the ball, shed blocks, clog running lanes, etc. Its not like we're going to be counting on these guys to be covering kickoffs or anything.

If my memory serves... In the story on Cajun Redzone, his coach did say he covered kicks...was always in the mix when the tackle was made. The kid will do a great job.

Chris Richard played LB this season, was he a SS before, or is that what he is being recruited as? He is a playmaker. The kid plays like his hair is on fire, never takes a break, hope he enjoys his visit to UL.

In their defense, he was basically a rover. He played close to the line at times, blitzes, etc. The question is do you believe he has the range to play SS, or not? I would say that our staff thinks he can make the move to the secondary. He is very similar to Daylon McCoy, he played a hybrid LB position in high school as well.

Truthfully I don't know much about either, but just from what I have seen on the films I like Gauthier's style a little better. I just wish he was a tab bit taller...

Uh, Tom did you see our Defensive secondary? While the play at linebacker could have been better, the secondary is what gave up big play after big play. I liked what I saw from Grant Fleming and I think he will get better every year. Zanders was solid for a second year in a row and I like Fred Davis in the middle even though Bustle seems to like Burkhalter. You couldn't count on Jarrett Jones or Scooter Rogers at CB last year although I'm not giving up on Rogers for next year. Half the year we started a freshman at one CB position.

While I do like some of our recruits, I'm not as concerned about numbers as I am about quality. Compared to other Sun Belt schools and even McNeese, we don't seem to be bringing in the higher ranked recruits as they do ( this is simply going by ranking services). I do think we could have a sleeper class with the likes of D.Johnson and his teammate.

While we are on the subject of recruiting, do you know anything about Devin Figaro Cajun T? What type of prospect is he considered? He seems to be interested in several BCS schools, has good size but I'm not sure about his hands. I'm just curious since I haven't heard much about him.
