With every tick of the clock, the UL football team moves closer to National Signing Day on Feb. 6.
For now, the Ragin' Cajuns are ahead of the curve in the Sun Belt Conference. Entering the weekend they had 12 players in their current recruiting class, including verbal commitments from eight high school seniors. Among Sun Belt schools only North Texas (18) has more commitments, while UL-Monroe (12) has just as many, according to Rivals.com.
UL coach Rickey Bustle said the Cajuns will sign "23 to 24" players for next season. That means he and his coaches have plenty of work to do in the next three weeks.
"Our biggest need, no question, is to get a playmaker," said Bustle, who is prohibited from publicly commenting on specific recruits until they've signed a letter of intent. "We need a guy who can make plays, who can catch a ball in space, make people miss and make a bigger play."

Very good article. We need more of this from the DA.
Tom, I think Bustle is aware of where our needs are. His answer is an opportunity to take a media question and respond with a completely allowable message to "all of us"... (that will also get to some recruits)... if you know what I mean.
A solid instate talent evaluator says that UL has connected with some real good talent and needs for our program (this is only with respect to Louisiana). He is aware of our needs and believes our staff is reaching "above their heads" to secure solid talent. This individual could care less about UL, but he made this assessment. He thinks other instate schools are doing fine, but is very impressed with UL's current connections with instate talent. I cannot imagine why that does not come as good news to most of us.
The word is that we have reached a very probable, highly thought of set of recruits.
However... it all comes down to signing day.
Damaris Johnson and Luther Ambrose I believe would put this class over the top. They are big time playmakers and would do great things here. Also just from what I have seen the WR's that we are looking at from Florida are big time. This class could be very special if we get 1 or 2 of these guys to sign.
I agree with you. With Fleming adding some size that's going to be a bonus for us next year. He more than proved to me he is a defensive playmaker. He has some of the best fly to the ball and skate past the block instincts in the game. Our returning LBs are good run stop LBs. We get into trouble when our DL cannot apply pressure. That changes absolutely everything for everyone else on defense. Last year, we had infrequent moments of DT/DE play, but no consistency. Our senior LBs are not good pass defense LBs. I would prefer they not have to. I'd like to shorten the middle by having better DB play, make rushing stop at the line, and passing a horrific experience for opponents by a better pass rush from the DL.
We were not inaccurate in our criticism of our LB's soft middle on pass defense... but they should not have to cover the ground that was left to them. Far too many people see a result and blame the guy on the end of the play. Some of those plays should never have developed in the first place.
One or two hellacious DTs controlling the middle can turn the rest of the defense into the stars they were meant to be. I still believe dominance starts at the line.
First off I want to say thank you for keeping us all up on the latest on the recruiting front.
Ok now to the main question....How are things between UL and the 2 WR's from Breaux Bridge? I believe one is listed as a CB on Scout but on rivals they are both WR's
Trevias Alexander is not even close, so I don't know what will happen with him. He could sit out, but he would be better off signing with a JC. We are on Drouselle, he is 50/50 right now as for as being eligible. Drouselle is an athlete that could play multiple positions, including CB. But we are looking at him on the offensive side of the ball right now
