It wasn't to do with the academics... we wanted to play in the SEC. But who wouldn't? Maybe he'll give us another look.

He could not have signed ANYWHERE because signing day isn't until February. He may have verbally commited which in itself means nothing. So...that being said if the recruiters here at UL like him and really want him then they still have a shot at him. Perhaps he isn't that great. Because he is a "local" boy doesn't make him automatically talented. He may have looked at the depth of his position and decided he didn't feel like waiting to play or perhaps Monroe promised him things they may or may not keep. That's the joy of recruiting and being recruited.

UL is on the list, but head football coach Saia is a Louisiana Tech alumnus and they are doing a good job staying on him. Saia's son has already committed to Tech. The Cajuns have two commitments now on the OL, so let's see what happens.

I think you may have it mixed up a bit, as Coach Saia coaches your TE commit, Brendan Wilson, as well as some other guys you may be recruiting, like 6'6" 250 lbs DE Sean Osborne, and 6'2" 195 lb WR Thomas Jackson. Thomas Jackson is the son of the former USL RB of the same name, that may have been the leading rusher in the history of the school when he played, not sure of my facts here, but I think someone told me that.

Evan Ruiz plays for St Michaels, which is coached by Barry Musemeche, who also coaches 6'3" 235 lbs LB/FB Lindsey Leavoy, that also holds an offer from UL.

I think that UL would be doing well to land all 5 of these kids.

You are correct sir, I'm confusing Dutchtown and St. Michaels. Both are good programs. Thomas Jackson did play RB here at USL at the time. All good kids, rest assured.

  6. UL Football UL Offered: Kevin Barkley breaks school record.

Barkley broke the school's single-season TD reception mark, inching closer to a 1,000-yard receiving season. He now has 46 receptions for 939 yards and 15 TDs.

"It's not about the yards, its about winning games and advancing in the playoffs," said Barkley, who has a scholarship offer from Louisiana-Lafayette.

  10. UL Football The OffSeason

Well Cajun fans the football season is over. We say goodbye to our senior class and move forward. I know for many of you, myself included, this season was disappointing. As we look ahead we have to look at what our needs are for recruiting. Personally, I believe we need to sign a couple of juco d-linemen for starters. We have alot of needs on the defensive side of the ball and I'm curious to see what all of you think our needs are. Does anyone know who we are recruiting on defense?

On offense we return Des, Fenroy, and Wallace and I feel we have the ability to score alot of points next season. If we are looking at offense alone the Cajuns should be at the top of the Sunbelt.

My concern is will the youth of this season mature and improve or will we get more of the same in the season ahead?

We have some GIANT holes to fill on defense. For all the talk of youth on the field, specifically defensively, we lose our best DT in Cory Raymond, our best defensive end in Rodney Hardaway, our best Safety in Lamar Morgan, and our best Corner in Jarrett Jones. We have alot to work to do on defense to solidify it next year. On offense, we don't lose alot, next year could be alot like this in that we'll have to score ALOT just to remain competitive.

Dead on. We are going to have to go the Juco route on defense and pick up some experienced players. If we thought we were a "young team" this year... next year's defense is going to be very inexperienced. This is my single biggest concern for next year, besides coaching. Bustle and staff may have felt like they could use this year to develop some young talent. Next year, they had better take everything they have at their disposal and swing for the fences.

Our OL is going to need to do a lot of work in the offseason on strength, speed and technique, but that is always the case (they are just too critical to success). If we can spring our skill players into action, no one can stop our scoring. I hope that one of our young QBs emerges from the crowd and gets factored in next year. This spread offense puts MD at high risk for getting banged up. We have to work another guy or two into the offense at QB.

We will have to bite the bullet and run a few series with our "#2 QB", especially in the "money games". There is too big an upside in the rest of the season to the obvious downside. It should not be just in the 4th quarter when our starting OL is worn out either.

The key is how prepared this coaching staff is going to be to win every game like it's the last one you will ever coach...
