Don't ya'll know that you cannot trust the ratings given by rivals and scout. You have to ask their parents to get the true rating.

I've heard this guys Mom said he is a 6 star. Fenroy better watch his back.

MissMandy, on the subject of Scout or Rivals, it is true that they make money off rating athletes and running camps. But individual sites are usually published by fans or supporters of that specific university. The BCS scout sites make good money because of the size of the fan base and interest in the athletic programs. I can assure you that I'm not making a ton of money and that was never my intention. Scout gave me an opportunity to get UL on a national platform, without the cost of a server. It also allows us to gather information from a regional and national base.

I have had parents and athletes contact me because they had no profile in the system. I created profiles for them and helped in some case touch base with coaching staffs. I have never made a dime off of doing those things, and never asked. I have enjoyed promoting local athletes and providing them the opportunity to participate in Scout. Many of these kids didn't have the money to attend these camps to get scouted. I can understand how people would be skeptical of these ratings, in fact I have questioned some this year. Some of these kids are rated on athletic ability alone, but don't play well during the season. You know the old say,"looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane."

We will be sponsoring several spring sports and I hope to do more with the university as the site grows. I just wanted to provide you with another prospective on Scout, that perhaps you and others don't really consider.

I appreciate all of your help for athletes that truely need it. I actually have a friend at Rivals that does the same thing. If you can help an athlete that is great. However, as my friend explained it to me, so many talented athletes are WAY underated simply because of who happens to watch their tape on any given day and what school they commit to and even what schools are on their list. That is wrong. Scout.com and Rivals.com are in the business of making money. I am sure indivuduals like yourself and my friend truely have the athletes best intentions in mind. I have known so many athletes that are truely underated and many overated because of the current rating system. These ratings have a dramatic impact on these players and it don't think it should be left up to people who never see these boys play but once on a tape. For those of your who truely care, like yourself, thank you for it. I think people need to understand who is adding and subtracting those stars and why and that their meaning is not the measure of an athletes talent. Sure at the 5 star level there is little question but the lines become blurred at the low 4, 3 and even 2 level.

    Rivals article on the guy...
"The 6-foot-2, 190-pound back is receiving interest from the academies and Louisiana-Lafayette, but a playoff run could propel him into several Division I offers."

    Guess UL isn't D1 anymore...

Gotta get the name changed... this Lafayette crap is annoying...

You need to get your information from Scout, he is being recruited by Central Michigan a 1A program, and two time MAC champs and in fact other 1A programs. Rivals has nobody representing UL but Scout does list our web site as Louisiana. CajunT bust his rear end getting good info about prospects.

    http://www.cmuchippewas.com/

In addition I think you read way more into the statement than was there. I see he references that the young prospect was being shown interest by the academies, a clear reference to one or more of our military academies all1A programs, us and if a playoff run he could get into several division 1, I assume this is 1A vs 1AA for the McNutts, offers.

I think you just gigged Rivals, not UL. If they can't keep track of who's D1, then they sure as heck can't keep track of the thousands of high school athletes around the country.

    Default Recruiting

I am a member of scout.com, a decision that I am enjoying more everyday. I'm not sold on all this two three star nonsense, I've been having fun seeing good players that are playing now and then going back to see what their ratings were when they were being recruited. I'm only going to list the players that say that we have offered scholarships. Interest may only mean a letter, a visit, a camp visitation; I think if the player has said the school has offered them, its more concrete than just them listing us as an interested school. So here they are.

    FB NR Zeke Jones
    (Springfield HS)
Springfield, LA 5-11/235/4.60 Med Yes Auburn, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, SE Louisiana, Southern Miss

(From what I've read we'd be looking at him to play more at running back)

    FB NR Kasey Stelly
    (St. Thomas More)
Lafayette, LA 6-0.5/220/4.90 Low Yes Tulane, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi, Northwestern, Louisiana, McNeese State

(Has already committed to TULANE, I've seen film and he's got a hell of a motor, but I think his comittment is strong to TULANE)

    C NR Joe Duhon
    (Washington/Marion Magnet HS)
Lake Charles, LA 6-3/290 Verbal Yes Committed to Louisiana

(I've read he was an MVP at an SEC camp somewhere, so my guess is he may have not been a great player but the tools are there)

    K NR Brett Baer
    (Brandon HS)
Brandon, MS 6-0/160 Verbal Yes Committed to Louisiana

(To me Kickers are the hardest thing to recruit, I'm never sold on a kicker until you can rush 11 guys at him and he can kick it just as far as he does when no one is there)

    TE NR Brendan Wilson
    (Dutchtown HS)
Geismar, LA 6-4/232/4.66 Verbal Yes Committed to Louisiana

( From what I've seen, doesn't impress me but, I heard he had a hell of a camp and probably has all the tools. PLUS, Dutchtown has some great talent so he could also be a pipeline guy)

    OG NR Evan Ruiz
    (St. Michael)
Baton Rouge, LA 6-3/280/5.50 Med Yes Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi, Southern Miss, Tulane

(I saw some film, and he's a solid player, nothing fantastic, but solid. Originally gave a verbal to Vanderbilt but changed his mind)

    WR NR Anthony Laday
    (Hightower HS)
Sugar Land, TX 6-1/186/4.50 Verbal Yes Committed to Louisiana

(The film was fuzzy, so I couldn't tell much but, the stats look good)

    WR NR Treyvias Alexander
    (Breaux Bridge HS)
Breaux Bridge, LA 6-1/185/4.50 Med Yes Houston, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Southern Miss

(Good strong talented local guy, I hope we get him but, he's being looked at by alot of big boys)

    WR NR Kevin Barkley
    (Moss Point HS)
Moss Point, MS 6-0/215 Med Yes Florida, Florida State, Louisiana, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Tennessee

(Good solid player, but have read that he's very underrated with huge upside)

    LB NR Lindsey Leavoy
    (St. Michael)
Baton Rouge, LA 6-2.5/244/4.97 Med Yes Air Force, Auburn, Connecticut, Duke, Louisiana, Northwestern

(Would make a great DE, but looks like will committ to Air Force)

    S NR LaQuintin Caston
    (Scotlandville Magnet HS)
Baton Rouge, LA 5-9.5/172/4.69 Med Yes Alabama, Colorado, Louisiana, LSU, Mississippi, SE Louisiana, West Virginia

(Pretty good player for just being listed as a one star, was overlooked because he switched schools from Istrouma to Scotlandville. Would make a hell of a CB, but still has desire to play QB)

    CB NR Johnelle Derouselle
    (Breaux Bridge HS)
Breaux Bridge, LA 6-0/175/4.55 Med Yes Houston, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, North Texas, Southern Miss

(Solid player but, I think looking at him more in order to get the other kid from Breaux Bridge, would love to get a pipeline working there)

    DE JC
    Terrance Conner
    (Coahoma CC)
Clarksdale, MS 6-4/242/4.60 Med Yes Kansas State, Louisiana, Memphis, Mississippi, Mississippi State,

(Good athletic type DE, a little on the small side but, I think he could come in and fit right in.I really hope we are able to snag this guy)

    Default Re: Recruiting

Nice observation about the pipeline.....they may not be the best player, but they're good enough to make a difference on our team now and hopefully even more in the future.

I've always wondered why we never had many players from Acadiana, Carencro, and Northside. ...and I don't think I've ever seen any guys from Breaux Bridge, St. Martinville, or Abbeville.....which always have solid teams.

It's like every year....the best player goes to LSU and none of the second tier come here. Is there a reason that we don't get the second tier athletes to come here? Do these high school coaches not promote UL?

We've got a great pipeline from: STM and LHS. Also....a nice little one streaming from New Iberia.

I believe there is enough talent in this state to find great athletes! Hell Nick Saban is in north LA recruiting.
