Why are we recruiting these kind of players?

Could be the coaching staff sees something they like that you don't see.

I'm thinking he's maybe the next Eugene Kwarteng, all SBC DE at UL his senior year and honor roll graduate.

I, too, hope so, but it is likely a reason our recruiting class is so lowly rated thus far.

_ There was also an OL player who committed. The DE is 6'4" and 215 lb. who was only recruited by 1AA schools. The OL was not recruited by anyone, at least no one was mentioned. These players are NOT rated.

I posted this under another thread, but it applies here. Why are we recruiting these kind of players? Is it because we need to get to 23-24 recruits and only had 17 with a week to go. Are we getting desparate for signees? Or, do these guys have an upside that only UL as the only 1A school to recruit them could recognize? _

We lost OL Duhon to USM so the fall back was the OL who committed...The DE from what I know is another fall back guy but he is a guy who switched position this year, he has a lot of upside.

Would you say Rodney Hardaway was a pretty good player for UL at DE? Well he wasn't heavily recruited and was only given a 2 star ranking after committing to a division 1 school.

It is my understanding that some kids just don't want to play the rating game. If they don't push the rating services by sending tape, stats, and any other pertinent info, they may well be overlooked or not rated. This is why sometimes you see a not rated kid sign with a mid major and he becomes a 2 star just because of the respect the rating services have for that coaching staff. And don't forget the two star committment at a mid major that becomes a 4 star when he switches to a bcs school. It just depends on how well the rating services know a player.

Yeah, but neither of these guys are even rated 1 star and neither was recruited by a 1A program. Just wondering.

A lot of kids dont get recruited by d1 programs. Also rivals has no 1 star recruits...2 star is the lowest. The QB from App. State wasn't recruited by anyone but he dismantled Michigan. Don't worry about rankings...the coaches are recruiting guys that fit what they are trying to do, while he is the coach just trust that he is doing it the right way.

That he is doing it the right way is what is scaring me. We continue to lose with the players he recruits, to 1AA programs like McNeese, 5 0f the last 6 years to ULM, and still a losing record. This MUST BE the year for Bustle. I only hope these kind of recruits will help us get over the hump.

When you have a guy at DE who weighs 210 pounds, what intangibles are going to make up for that?? Even if he has a great motor, he's going to get pancaked by a TE much less a Tackle. His "intangibles" can't be too great if he wasn't recruited by any D-1 teams.

BTW, everybody mentions Kwarteng and I loved what he brought to our team. You have to remember, he only really made a big impact his senior year. I'm hoping for these guys that will come here and be all-conference players earlier in their career. I think this point is worthless anyway because we have some talent at DE who are all young. Richardson is going to be a beast and Cook or S. Moore have some promise.

Yes, that would likely happen if he had to play next Fall but it is it even remotely possible he could red shirt and put on say 25-35 lbs, keep his motor and be the type player we need when he is a 4th year junior?
