When 6-foot-3, 380-pound Garry Van Frank strolled through the media center at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans during Super Bowl week, more than a few heads turned.

In fact, many hardcore media types were seen scrambling for their media guides to see who was this guy. A wire service photographer even started taking his picture after Frank plopped down on the giant leather sofa in the media lounge. No doubt they were all a little embarrassed they didn’t know the mammoth man who had just invaded their territory. A guy that big, that strong looking has got to be somebody.

They were right. Garry Frank is somebody. He is arguably the strongest man walking the planet right now. He may also be the quietest. Frank--who was credentialed for the Super Bowl through the auspices of PowerMag Magazine-- has been a major force on the powerlifting scene since he set a national high school record in powerlifting with a 710-pound dead lift and a 700-pound squat while at Omro High School (Omro, Wisc.)...
