The Troy University Trojans received their first vote in the Associated Press NCAA football poll Sunday when Morris News Service writer Adam Van Brimmer cast made his selection.

The Trojans earned a vote during their bye week, and it's the first-ever AP Poll vote for Troy.

“I take the polls from my point of view very seriously,” said Troy coach Larry Blakeney. “I fill out my coaches' poll every Sunday, and sometimes that's a very difficult thing to do. But anytime you get that kind of notice, it's very positive for your program.”

Van Brimmer said he'd rather vote for a team like Troy, which is on a four-game winning streak than base his vote on a program's reputation. Van Brimmer was one of a group of sportswriters who wanted to vote for Appalachian State after the Mountaineers knocked off then-No. 5 Michigan to open the season.
