Dude needs to worry less about showing his abs...and start showing his hands.
It looks like he tries to trap the ball againest his pads instead of catching it with his hands.
You don't forget how to catch so what has changed?
My theory is soft hands begin with soft arms.
Receivers and quarterbacks need to stay out of the weight room after June. (specifically upper body)
To much muscle memory lost.
Just my theory.
Impossibly inaccurate. New muscles do not suddenly appear with inherent coordination. They can learn to work in conjunction with existing muscle, eventually to the same degree of accuracy (or better) but it must be learned.
My conclusions are based on something coach Ross Faulkenberry told me at practice one year, the subject was Jake Delhomme.
I know on that 4th down play against KSU, he had his hands in an awkward position. The one against Arkansas, he stone-handed it. He's just way too good to be uncomfortable catching the ball... anytime, anywhere, against anyone.
But, at those exact moments, I was sitting back in a recliner, unimpeded view of the flat screen, a chilly 70 degrees, slow motion sipping on a Maker's (for Arkansas)... and a really nice Cab (for KSU)... waiting on The Snack to serve me my Kobe filet... so it was pretty easy for me to suggest they should have been caught.
One paradoxical study in my kinesiology class experiments was the fact that muscle mass did not hinder flexibility and in fact enhanced it---So many stories at the time of muscle bound guys not being able to wipe their butt---And again Carl Malone's discussion with me about his lifting weights BEFORE games---Well with all the incredible catches of the past 2 years I guess some statistical averaging had to come into play---I think we will be ok !!!!
I doubt he was trying to build muscle mass before games.
I suspect Karl's pregame regimen with weights was more closely related to blood flow aerobics than building muscle mass.
As far as flexibility, I think that would be up to the individual, and would be a long term manifestation.
I am concerned with short term muscle memory.
I agree with Hud, things will get better . . . as soon as he can do his thing without having to think through his every move.
