Thread: Hudspeth encouraged with second effort

  1. UL Football Hudspeth encouraged with second effort

The UL Ragin’ Cajuns yielded 449 yards in total offense in their 48-27 loss last Saturday night at Kansas State, down from 522 in a 20-point loss one earlier at Arkansas.

By coach Mark Hudspeth’s accounting, 27 of the points KSU scored could be tagged on the UL defense – with the other 21 attributed to a pick-six and two long special-team returns, one off a kickoff for a touchdown and the other off a punt that two plays later resulted in a 1-yard TD run.

If the offense clicks anything near last years rate, the defense gives up far less points.

Possibly so, but that's still no excuse for the very poor play of the defense. I can't tell if we just don't have the athletes, or if the coaching is that poor, but I am not impressed in the least with the new d-coordinator.

The defense needs to improve, case closed.

And a great defense can control its own ToF (Time on Field) but a solid offense can keep them off the field as well.

However just figure how many points they give up for every minute the opponents have the ball.

Right now 40 points a game equals 1.16 points for every minute the opponent has the ball.

UL's offense has the ball 25 minutes a game (rounded) Defense is on the field for 35 minutes.

Flip the ToP and the defense goes from giving up 40 points a game to 29 points a game.
