Thread: Arkansas loss produces moves in the secondary

  1. UL Football Arkansas loss produces moves in the secondary

Coming off a 34-14 loss at Arkansas of the SEC last Saturday, and prepping for a visit this Saturday to Kansas State of the Big 12, change is in the air for UL of the Sun Belt Conference.

Mostly, as widely expected after the Ragin' Cajuns fell to the Razorbacks, it will come where there have been some issues high in the sky for UL – in the secondary.

Those are some pretty intriguing moves. Hope they work.

Patt moves to CB opposite of Trim. Starting safeties will be Worthy and Gillis. Al riles and Simeon Thomas will get reps at corner as well

Tyren Alexander and Tig will get an increased role at LB. as I said over a year ago, Tyren Alexander will be one of the best to ever play LB at UL. Glad to see him getting an increased role.

Thanks. So I guess that means less playing time for the JC corners? Did they even start last week?

Yes they did. It looks like Tillman will see less playing time.

Honestly, the only thing that surprises me here is Riles to Corner. If any of you have seen him, he's thick as a house and his weight is around 210-215. Looks like a perfect SS but Hud said he is fast enough to play CB. I don't doubt that but you need quick hips and good footwork and I can't imagine they will want to put him out in man coverage which may mean even more zone.

To me, Patt is a no brainer and I'm surprised they took him out of CB after the spring. I like Worthy, Gillis and Riles at safety and we could use Patt's experience at a position of need.

At LB, I'm not surprised at either Tig or Tyren getting more PT since they have speed. i predicted Tig to be starting on the outside and I know that Andrew is supposed to be good in the run game but I saw him whiff on several tackles this past game so we have improvement there.

We will probably see more backfield moves as we get deeper into the season. I hope it's intelligent evaluation of talent and not because our staff chooses to blame the secondary for the entire D's lack of contribution to each play. If we keep allowing every QB time to stretch the field... you cannot blame the D secondary each and every game.

In reality, after game one... UL's secondary was more impressive than Arkansas's. If Terrance would have had the time Allen had... we had wide, wide, wide open receivers that a blind QB could have located. Arkansas's secondary had more blown coverages than UL's. Way more.

Exactly. I am not sure why people are upset about the defense. We replaced 8 starters from last year, and I think this unit held up as good or better than last year's defense. Admittedly we are not good at defense but what did people expect from a team that gave up nearly 500 yds a game last year. The offense was the big let down, what are the coaches doing about that?

I agree. I wasn't expecting anymore out of the defense than what was shown. However, 14 points from our offense that only lost 2 starters....pathetic!

    Actually 4 very important pieces.

I think the coaches that watched the film saw what they needed in order to warrant the moves. I'm surprised nobody on here ever got hired to rebuild the program. HUD said before the game, the young secondary looked good but we will see when the bullets start flying. The coaches probably just feel more comfortable with game experience in the secondary at this point.
