Broussard police are investigating a fatal crash that happen at around 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of Ambassador Caffery Parkway. Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou said a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe veered off the road and flipped several times near Stine Home Store. Upon arrival, police found the driver, 60-year-old Brenda Briggs of Lafayette, ejected from the vehicle. Police said her body was found 75 feet from car. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she was the only occupant in the car and did not apprear to be wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The preliminary investigation determined that the Tahoe was traveling north on Ambassador Caffery at a high rate of speed when for unknown reasons she lost control of the vehicle and went off road right and traveled through the field coming to rest about 350 feet in the field after overturning several times, according to a statement Saturday from the Broussard Police Department.

Alcohol involvement is unknown at this time and Toxicology results are pending. The crash appears to be a single vehicle crash and if anyone has any information in reference to this, please call Broussard police at 837-6259
