No more white helmets ever again
You know, 3:00 was a really stupid time to start a game in August in the South........really stupid.
We hoped that Arkansas would be about like the were last year, when in truth we had know idea. In fact, we really didn't know how we had. A great game as a litmus test for the rest of the season...
So did something happen to TB or not? I had to leave toward the end of the game and am just finding out that something might have happened.
no one seems to know. it didn't look to bad. broadway was on the bench and a trainer was moving his knee around for a minute. the trainer turned and walked off before the cameras went back to game action
After seeing that Edwin guy post his idiocracies, and also seeing how hard some of you are being on your team, I felt compelled to give another prospective from and Arkansas fan.
1. Yes, your defense did give up a ton of rushing yards, but I would place more of that blame on Arkansas' offense as I would your players or coaches. This was not the same Arkansas team from last year that lost to a SBC team, so don't make that comparison. Arkansas has a HUGE OL, and one of the best OL coaches in the country coaching them up. They also have a 4* and 5* RB tandem that will most likely cause the best defenses in the SEC fits. Not to belittle the SBC, your team, or your players, but it is so difficult to compensate for that kind of talent discrepancy. You can make up for it with skill position players and schemes, but not on the line, especially when its a power run game offense you're going up against.
2. And now the passing defense. When it came for one on one coverage between your DBs and our WRs, I was actually quite impressed with the corners. Arkansas' WRs made some plays, but your corners were right there most of the time. But again, it goes back to that run game and line play that really opens up the passing game. If you can't stop the run or get pressure on the QB, there really isn't much your secondary can do. Especially when Allen is playing like a high quality QB. So now you can see how one affects the other, and unfortunately, there really wasn't a whole lot UL could do defensively.
3. Your Oline and QB. I would place more of this blame on Arkansas as well. Again, line play and the talent discrepancy. Arkansas has been projected to have the 2nd best Dline in the SEC, which also means probably top 5 in the country. It really limits your offense when you can't get a solid run game going and the QB is constantly getting hit and having to scramble...usually unsuccessfully.
4. Now for the good! I LOVE that TE and WR you guys have. Those guys could probably play on just about any team in the country. When you get into the SBC, your offense will really flourish with these guys. I could also see talent in the QB and RB, even though they had mostly forgettable games. Arkansas' secondary was accused of being inexperienced earlier in the thread, and that's not true. They may not be the best, but those guys have played their fair share of SEC games and your WRs and that TE pretty much had their way with them. So don't worry about the offense, and I also wouldn't worry too much about the Oline, because they most likely won't face another Dline like they did on Saturday.
5. Going forward...I understand you have K State next week. Even though they probably aren't as good this year as the Arkansas team you just played, AND they lost to ND State this week, I wouldn't get down on myself too much if you somehow end up starting out 0-2. K State is still a pretty good program and they will be doing everything in their power to not lose to another non-BCS school. Oh, and they also have a hall of fame coach. I do think you match up quite well with them, however. I am just throwing this out there so you don't get your hopes up, to be crushed again if the worst case happens. I know how this goes, I AM a Razorback fan afterall!
In conclusion, I think you guys have a more than capable SBC championship caliber team. The only difficulties I see on your schedule is @WKU and @ASU. Both are extremely good programs this year, none better than yours, but the Ragin' Cajuns better show up for those two. If you do, well congrats on a SBC championship!
Good luck with the rest of the year! I had a great time today at the game and hope you guys did as well. I will definitely be tracking UL's progress the rest of the year.
Only 274 yards total offense. Ouch.
Broadway fine....slight tweak.
Awesome post! Very well done, and thanks. Arkansas handed our hat to us, we missed out on some plays that if we play our best and we make those plays we score a few more times and thus keep your awesome offense off the field resting our Defense. If you have a business and you run it as smoothly as you did your post you will be in Forbes before all is said and done, good luck Hogs, beat Tigers and Bama!
