SPRING, Texas - Just months after making its ninth consecutive NCAA postseason appearance, Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball team will open its fall practice with the College Classic October 12-14. The Cajuns will play 11 games during the three-day, round-robin tournament.
The Cajuns return 11 letterwinners from last season, including Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year Brittany Cuevas (Brazoria, Texas). Also returning are All-Sun Belt second teamer Karli Hubbard (Lafayette, La.) and All-Louisiana selection Melissa Verde (Beaumont, Texas). UL also features eight newcomers, highlighted by senior transfers Brooke Brodhead (Lafayette, La.), Vanessa Soto (San Diego, Calif.) and the nation's most acclaimed freshman, Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year Ashley Brignac (Lafitte, La.).
Louisiana, which finished the 2007 season with a 46-18 mark, opens the preseason classic against Alvin College and Texas State on Friday, Oct. 12. Saturday, the Cajuns will face Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor and second-time opponent Alvin College. UL will conclude the tournament against NCAA College Station Regional foe Houston, before facing Texas State, Blinn College, Stephen F. Austin and Galveston College.
