PRAIRIE BASSE - Beau Chene's Ashley Ray received numerous letters from several college softball programs interested in her service, but there was only one university she paid any attention to - the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns.
Regardless of how many times her coaches and parents encouraged her not to put all of her eggs in one basket, Ray wouldn't have any of it, banking on the fact she'd earn a scholarship to one of the premier softball programs in the country.
"I didn't try for anything else," Ray said. "I'm not sure if I could have or would have been able to go anywhere else, because I didn't try. I received letters and stuff, but I didn't even take them into consideration. I didn't consider them because I knew that's not where I wanted to be."
