And his defense wasn't appreciably better than Girourd's. Every time someone mentioned his glove to me, I would ask them to point out which plays he made that Tyler would not have made...or the plays Tyler hadn't made that Carriere could have made. They really couldn't point out any.
Girourd's glove has been extremely solid...all the way back to his days at TCH playing 3rd and shortstop.
All of these guys were the best players on their high school teams, maybe in town, until they left town. Lots of excellent players out there and here too.
The higher level scout teams that travel nationally expose the players to top competition later in HS. Lots of top players playing in national tournaments can be humbling and usually helps kids understand what to expect at the next level. He may not have been on the right travel team(s).
Of the two, Carriere had the better arm, but Girouard was the better overall player. Girouard struggled a little with his fielding his freshman year so didn't play nearly as much, but was much more solid this past year and hit the cover off the ball for most of the year.
1, I'm not that old...2, when I was young if you weren't good enough you sat in the dugout...daddy couldn't pay to put you on another team. Every generation has gripes about younger generation, I agree, but this generation is the most "entitled" generation ever...by a long shot. What happen to life isn't fair? Everyone now a days wants to make life "fair".
