Thread: Pre Game March ( Slide Show )

  1. ooh LA La. Pre Game March ( Slide Show )

Here is a slide show of the very start of the PreGame March in front of The Swamp. Please allow a moment to load.

It is a slide show so the intruments do not always match the sound.
Besides the photos are from the Ohio game and the audio is from the McNeese game.

Pretty cool, good job. But alas! I'm not in there. Next year, though. Next year I'm going to try and elevate the PoA to what it can be. Singlehandedly. Mmhmm. (I hope)

While we're on the subject, what would be some halftime show themes y'all would like to hear? Maybe I can suggest your suggestions for next season.

    Cajunbander,
Latin arrangements always sound good on the field. Jazz/Funk tunes are always a risk, but if you play them clean, that will get the crowd into it more, and will make some horn players more interested in being in the band. I thought that McNeese did a good job with Tower of Power and the Ohio Players last week.

The no-no is in being stubborn (the director that is). It aggravates me that a band director wants to take his ideas that belong in a symphonic chamber and carry them to the field. Play to the crowd and make it entertaining. The return in fun carries over to getting more musicians to join the band and so on, and so forth. You guys do seem to have a good time in the stands... keep working it.

That said, I do think you guys do a great job (and you next year). It takes a lot of work that people do appreciate. Best of luck to you with your grades and getting back in the band.

You've just said the exact thoughts of many of us that have been in it a little while.

We did sound good tonight though. They had the right kind of sound. The main consensus with the people in band was that they weren't gunna let Troy come in and out play then in their own house.

Hate to say it but the band sounds like a high school band.

Go to the Showcase of Marching Bands this year. You'll see the difference between a high school band and the PoA. No, we're not the best college band out there, but we damn better sounding than a high school band. Surely you can't be basing your opinion off the audio from this thread. This recording sounds like dog poo because the band is moving past the microphone. Its not going to sound good like that, but if you were down the road from it, or across the stadium from it, then it would sound a whole lot better.

Cajunbander is right. I was right next to a single instrument at a time.

If I were not taking pictures I should record from farther away.

The band did sound better during the Troy game. I think they knew what Troy would be bringing and they tried to put a little more nads into it. Troy, however, has the right idea. They go with drum and bugle corps style, build up a fine horn line and blow the socks off the field.

The way to get more horn players and drummers to join the band is to play ballsy sounding arrangements. I'd like UL to steer away from being symphonically balanced. We are the "Ragin" Cajuns and the band should rage on the field and in the stands. It helps set the tone for the atmosphere we are eventually going to have to have with the football team.

I agree with you completely. But, the band has to follow the will of the director.

Also, if you noticed when Troy played at halftime, the brass was always in the front. The little woodwinds that were there were always on the side or off where they couldn't hurt anything. Now, you also have to realize that they would play in unison a lot, and that of course makes them sound louder. The PoA does more blending and chords and whatnot.
