Bohl was named Outstanding Graduate in the College of Arts in 2006 at University of Louisiana

A documentary has pressed a Bossier City native into the limelight. Allison Bohl will take home the Louisiana Filmmaker Award at the New Orleans Film Festival along with cohort Connie Castille, who’s from Breaux Bridge.

The duo made “I Always Do My Collars First,” a 25-minute documentary about Cajun women in French Louisiana who love to iron.

It will be one of 117 movies shown during the New Orleans Film Festival, which is scheduled for Oct. 11-18. All genres of film will be screened, and actors Vince Vaughn and Alan Cumming will make appearances.

Bohl was happy about the honor. “It’s a little weird to know before the festival,” Bohl said by phone from Lafayette.

“I Always Do My Collars First” will screen Oct. 12 and Oct. 13.

Bohl didn’t think about awards while making the documentary through the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s folklore program.

Glad to see any UL grad succeed, but I'm not sure how interesting a documentary about women ironing is.
