Keep in mind Tech got several years head start on us in selective admissions due to the requirement that a community college had to be in place before yu could go to selective admissions. As I recall the SLCC was help up due to political squabbling in Lafayette between competing government boards over who would control the SLCC while the one is SHreveport - Bossier opened without those problems.

One of the things universities have started doing in addition to raising tuition is to start charging "fees" which can become significant.

I am not sure if Forbes is using a "total cost" of attending (tuition + fees + other) in their calculations.

Hammer hit a big nail right on the head---we have just really started selective admission--again I complement them as they have done more than us with really less----but now it is a new game "Brand New" I am pretty sure that our endowment money is twice as much---research not even close---projected enrollment keeps getting wider---- Anticipated PHD programs will outnumber theirs-----Also keep in mind that there are some really weird peripheral points that are factored in such as alumni contributions----I will take our $165 million endowment and our budget that will keep getting an increase with the state formula--- Geaux Cajuns!!!

Trust me, there is not a single thing we want that Tech has, including National Recognition in Academics as ours is certainly on par. Kindergardens over kids, onto the next summer doldroms, find things wrong with our university whine festival.

Honest answer? LaTech has Grambling to siphon off minorities who traditionally bring down the graduation rate at UL. Sad but true.

Louisiana 6 year rates. White 44% Black 24%. UL has a higher minority population which affects their ranking.

Hammer is correct. La Tech did have a head start in selective admissions. Folks, there is a difference between ratings and rankings. UL is rated the same as Louisiana Tech...Carnegie RU/H and SREB 4yr-2. We are slightly behind in Forbes rankings and USNWR rankings. Over the last few years we have been listed as one of the 377 best Universities by The Princeton Review and Louisiana Tech has not made the list. All three ranking systems (Forbes, USNWR and Princeton Review) are highly subjective and easily manipulated....several Universities are busted annually for doing just that. BTW, UL reached its present Carnegie and SREB ratings years before Louisiana Tech did and we are making steady progress toward the top rating in both. There is no 'separation'...both Institutions use their superior rankings to promote their progress....as I would expect them to do. Both Universities have done a remarkable job of growing considering the crumbs that the State throws their way. Lets mow our own grass and realize the progress that our University has made and continue to do our part to make it a Premier Institution of Higher Learning.
