Vacationing Family Comes Home To Ashes After House Burns Down
Imagine going on vacation and finding out you'll be coming home to nothing. That's the tragic reality for one family out of Morse. The Thibodeaux's were in Tennessee when a house fire claimed everything from their vehicles, all the way to a family pet.
The family of five made it back Saturday night and are staying with family. But Sunday, they saw what's left of their home for the first time.
"It's absolutely heart wrenching because they don't have anything anymore," said family member Sandy Thibodeaux. Sandy's brother, sister-in-law and their three children lived in the house.
"They lost everything they own except the clothes they had on vacation," said Sandy.
Wednesday night five fire departments were called to the scene.
"The house was completely engulfed in flames. Very, very hot," said Megan Smith with the Estherwood Fire Department.
According to first responders it took nearly 5 hours to extinguish the blaze. A job made tougher in a small town when most people on scene know the family.
"It makes it rough because you know these people. You know everyone by name," said Hubert Istre with the Morse Fire Department.
The one story brick home is a complete loss including two trucks parked under the car port and a family pet.
"The material things can be replaced. Their children are safe, they're healthy and that's all that really matters," said Sandy.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Nothing was able to be salvaged from the Thibodeaux's home. If you would like to help the family, donations, from clothes to furniture, can be dropped off at the Morse Fire Department off of Highway 91.
