Thread: Some former UL players and signees playing ball

  1. Default Some former UL players and signees playing ball

(Former UL signee Chaz Hebert)In 22 innings now on the season, Hebert is 3-1 with a 3.27 ERA, allowing 24 hits, nine walks and struck out 25 in 22 innings. Opponents are batting .282 against him.

Veteran triple-A shortstop Chase Lambin, who played at UL in 2002, is hitting .264 with four doubles, a triple, 4 RBIs and a stolen base in 53 at-bats for the Royals' Omaha club.

Chad Beck, the ace pitcher for the Cajuns in 2006, is still on the disabled list for Toronto's triple-A Buffalo club, staying at 1-1 with a 7.11 ERA in 12.2 innings.

Former Teurlings Catholic and UL pitcher Dayton Marze pitcher continues to shine for Toronto's Single-A Dunedin club of the Florida State League. He's 0-1 with a 1.66 ERA, giving up 14 hits, seven walks and striking out 13 in 21.2 innings. Opponents are hitting just .197.

Former UL pitcher T.J. Geith continued his fabulous season so far for Houston's High-A Lancaster club of the California League. He's 6-0 with a 2.86 ERA and a save, yielding 43 hits, 15 walks and striking out 26 in 44 innings. Opponents are hitting .257 against him.

Former UL pitcher Jordan Harrison is 1-2 with a 4.08 ERA for Tampa Bay's Mid-A Bowling Green team in the Midwest League. In 17.2 innings, he's allowed 16 hits, seven walks and striking out 23. Opponents are hitting .235.

Congrats but it would have been really nice to have Chaz with UL.

Chaz is in his 2nd season of rookie ball in the Gulf Coast League. Not too many repeat GCL. That is sort of like repeating 1st grade in elementary school. It does take a long time to develop HS pitchers as pros, but he'll either be moved up after this year or out. Till then he'll enjoy 12 noon games in 90-95* weather in front of literally 10-20 people, with many non-English speaking players, while getting paid slave wages 800 miles from home. I hope he makes the Show.

    EDIT: Googled his bonus...$148K

Baseball America's scouting report "..... Hebert is a bit smaller at 6-foot-2 and 180 lbs., but he generally sits in the low-90′s with his heat. “His slow curveball is well below-average, lacking velocity and at times resembling an eephus pitch,” said Baseball America. Both guys are great late-round fliers, there’s nothing to lose here but money."

11% of draftees make the bigs.

Probably lower for 27th rounders, but they make $5,000 per year.

It appears that your research is a bit “dated” since the report you referenced was from June 5, 2011.

Seems as though supporters, not critics, can easily find a bit more updated information through google as well.

There is also information on the new 2nd GCL (rookie) team by the Yankees. Apparently, the new pitching coordinator is taking a new approach to HS players due to injuries and failure rates through the system, and therefore has made a few changes to the development program. Through Google, I only found a couple of pitchers in that draft class that were sent to A, while the majority did not. Contrary to what you may believe, this by no means, is a setback for these guys especially since the best coaches are down in Florida. This has allowed many pitchers an official starting rotation with more innings. Chaz Hebert had a successful season last year, and is currently ranked 19th (pitching leaders) out of the 16 teams in the GCL, which as we know changes often. However, what I find interesting is that such little research was done to be able to comment on a local article for a player many wanted at UL. It is comments like yours that probably remind him that he made the right choice. If you cannot show support and encourage confidence in our young players, then it is folks like you who have kids that never or will never reach a goal they seek. If Chaz Hebert chooses play in the Florida heat, 800 miles away from home, making slave wages and the need to learn a little Spanish to get by, then thumbs up to him for trying to be part of that (11%) success rate and chasing the dream only a few have been given!. I know his family, friends, and fans are proud of his hard work and accomplishments at such a young age and wish him the very best of luck in his endeavors!

    I sure hope he succeeds.

From what I have read the successful ones -more often than not- have a never quit never take the easy route mentality.

Not exactly... it's actually more on the business side and only found this forum during research on google's search engine - but thanks. In fact, I had register so that I could reply to what I felt was a surprising reaction to the local media's update of this Acadiana player. Then through other resources discovered why such a comment was probably made.
Just a thought, I would imagine that if I were a parent, the reply may have not been as kind.
