Then through other resources discovered why such a comment was probably made.
Just a thought, I would imagine that if I were a parent, the reply may have not been as kind.

I hope the kid got thicker skin then you, if he plans to make it.

I've always said that kids have ONE shot at making it in...or up to...the bigs. Just as soon take your BEST shot...since you only get one. The VAST majority of kids who go early could have used more years to develop BEFORE taking that ONE shot.

Seems as though supporters, not critics, can easily find a bit more updated information through google as well.

There is also information on the new 2nd GCL (rookie) team by the Yankees. Apparently, the new pitching coordinator is taking a new approach to HS players due to injuries and failure rates through the system, and therefore has made a few changes to the development program. Through Google, I only found a couple of pitchers in that draft class that were sent to A, while the majority did not. Contrary to what you may believe, this by no means, is a setback for these guys especially since the best coaches are down in Florida. This has allowed many pitchers an official starting rotation with more innings. Chaz Hebert had a successful season last year, and is currently ranked 19th (pitching leaders) out of the 16 teams in the GCL, which as we know changes often. However, what I find interesting is that such little research was done to be able to comment on a local article for a player many wanted at UL. It is comments like yours that probably remind him that he made the right choice. If you cannot show support and encourage confidence in our young players, then it is folks like you who have kids that never or will never reach a goal they seek. If Chaz Hebert chooses play in the Florida heat, 800 miles away from home, making slave wages and the need to learn a little Spanish to get by, then thumbs up to him for trying to be part of that (11%) success rate and chasing the dream only a few have been given!. I know his family, friends, and fans are proud of his hard work and accomplishments at such a young age and wish him the very best of luck in his endeavors!
It takes a long time for most high school pitchers to develop as professional ball players. At least we agree the GCL is noon games in front of 10 "fans" for slave wages. Did Chaz know that when he signed up?

Believe what you want. I know players that went through the NYY system. They don't wait forever for a player to move up. Look at the dates of birth on the GCL teams. Chaz will be 21 in a month. These are facts. I'm not blowing smoke and neither with NYY. They won't wait forever for somebody to get out of high A, let alone GCL.

Do you really think I trashed him? Did I say his ERA, WHIP K / BB, BB/ 9 IP and K/ IP are not as good this year? He is working on his command and learning how to pitch. I understand that. The high A and GCL teams use the same complex and the same coordinating staffs, where the same "best coaches are".

I really only found it curious he appears to have earned a promotion, yet there he still is. Chaz will make it based on his talent, how he adjusts to what he is learning and his health. Those are facts, just like the money they make and his teammates dates of birth. Good luck.

My post was directed not at the players who did not sign with UL, but the ones who still have the choice and I'm not making this up. Chaz made his choice and I sincerely wish him luck. His odds are long, but he won't be the first 27th rounder to pitch in the Show. There have been a few.

The fact is most pitchers now prefers to do their baseball "grunt" work at the college level, based on educational opportunity and lifestyle choices.

To make sure I wasn't misunderstood.

When I stated that they just as soon take their BEST shot...since they only get ONE...I meant that in the VAST majority of cases, that "best" shot would be to go after completing a FULL college career spent developing as much as possible. Then...when the time for that "shot" comes, they are best positioned to actually make it stick.

Now...in some cases would it mean less money up front? Possibly...maybe even probably. But if the point is to actually "make it", waiting would have given a better chance of doing just that. And many in the past have seemed to prove this point over and over.

+1....everybody is different though, and some folks are not interested in college. Obviously a sheepskin or 3/4 of one, is a decent back up plan. Statistically, most are better off in college. JUCO is an option, also.
