LOUISIANA La. - Head coach Scot Wieland entered Tuesday night’s match against McNeese State just one victory shy of 100 career wins and after 110:00 minutes of play, Wieland is still looking for that landmark win.
The Lady Cajuns (1-1-1) battled McNeese State (1-0-2) to a 2-2 double overtime draw on a rain soaked night.
The Cajuns jumped out early with a goal in the fourth minute of action. Kelli Jestes netted a goal with 4:07 on the clock for the early 1-0 lead.
The one-goal advantage held through the first half, but the Cowgirls scored a pair of goals in the second half to take the lead.
A penalty kick in the 55th minute of the match gave McNeese State their goal of the night.
With 80:08 on the clock, Ja’Nae Powell took a pass from Cynthia Torres and slipped the ball past a charging Kristen Malen for the go-ahead goal.
Less than a minute later, the Cajuns answered back. Callie Oliver split the uprights at point blank range to tie the score at 2-2.
The score remained knotted through a pair of overtimes with UL getting a 3-to-2 shot advantage in the extra frames.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will look to secure Wieland’s 100th win on Friday night as UL plays host to in-state foe Grambling State. The Cajuns and Tigers kickoff at 7:00 p.m. at the Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.
