HUNTSVILLE, TX - Louisiana needed a late goal and overtime to sneak past Sam Houston State, 3-2, to pick up their first victory of the season.

Trailing 2-1, senior Stephanie Lynch scored on a penalty kick with 15 seconds remaining in regulation.

In overtime, freshman Chelsea Balestra scored the “golden goal” for the Lady Cajuns. The goal was her first career as a Cajuns’ player. Balestra took a pass from Callie Oliver and snuck the ball past the Bearkats goalie at the 97:45 mark of the match.

“We had some kids show a lot of character today,” Wieland remarked of his team. “Senior Stephanie Lynch had a penalty kick to tie it up and she buried it.”

The Lady Cajuns (1-1-0) jumped out to an early lead as Oliver netted UL’s first goal of the season at the 42-minute mark. The unassisted goal was the fourth of her career.
