Thread: Lady Cajuns softball gets two significant transfers

  1. UL Softball Lady Cajuns softball gets two significant transfers

UL's newcomer class for the 2008 softball season, already considered one of the country's best, got markedly better over the past two weeks.

The Cajuns have added two transfers, Brooke Brodhead of McNeese State and Vanessa Soto of LSU, who will play their senior seasons at UL this spring. The two, who have started a combined 362 college softball games, are eligible for fall practice and the upcoming spring season.

"Getting two quality transfers like that, that just doesn't happen," said UL coach Stefni Lotief. "We're extremely lucky to have players with that kind of talent and experience join us. We were going to be pretty young, so getting a couple of older and more experienced players helps the balance of our team."

It's a homecoming for Brodhead, who prepped at Teurlings Catholic and was a three-time Class 3A All-State pick while leading the Lady Rebels to one state title and two second-place finishes. She played the last three seasons at second base for the Cowgirls.

Soto, a native of San Diego, was a three-year starter at LSU, playing second base for two years and moving to first base during her junior year.

This is GREAT news, something we have been hearing was in the making for some time now. My question to someone in the know how will these two young ladies fit in and at what positions for the Lady Cajuns. I am wondering if a few ladies will be VERMILION shirted to keep a year or are there ready made slots for these two ladies?

I know Mike and Steff will make it work and the ladies on the team will do what is best for the team and the program, even if a couple have to VERMILION shirt for a year!

my understanding is that they are going to play immediately, soto will probably play first base where bertucci left off, but we need a second base player as well so who knows. they will help out extremely with the youngness of the team.

I'll wait to fall ball to give my final opinion, but the Cajuns didn't recruit Bridges to sit the bench. Bridges will get some playing time at first, her bat is too good not to have some time on the field.
