In Crowley, students have decided to spend their summer fundraising for a former Rayne police officer who is in need of a new heart.

Troy Menard and his family attend Forest Park Church of Christ in Crowley. When Menard's son told fellow group member Bradley Ancelet his dad was suffering from congestive heart failure, Ancelet wasted no time starting 'change for a chance.'

Since Sunday, students have raised over $1,000 for the officer and his family. "The change drawer that you keep in your house, all that kind of stuff, donate it, and we're just trying to fill up a five gallon jug," says Ancelet.

Since Menard was told he needed the heart transplant, his wife, Ella Menard, says the family has been saddled with bills that haven't stopped coming in. "We have no help besides what they're doing. Thank god for the youth doing this thing because it really helps."

If you'd like to donate, students ask that you stop by Forest Park on weekdays before 2 p.m and drop off money to Julie Ancelet (Bradley's aunt) in the church office.
