COLOMBO: A Sri Lankan journalist Anuradha Herath, who is currently engaged in media research in the US and frequently contributes to US media, was the first to be awarded the CNN-SAJA Scholarship for Broadcast Journalism at the annual convention of the South Asian Journalists Association (SAJA) held at Columbia University in New York City recently.
Prior to pursuing her studies in the States, Anuradha worked as a news anchor and reporter for MTV, SLRC and SLBC in addition to contributing to several Sri Lankan newspapers and magazines.
Her reports on the Sri Lankan conflict have been broadcast on CNN’s World Report programme and television stations in the US. She was also the Sri Lankan correspondent for the World Press Review magazine.
Beginning her elementary education at Bishop’s College, Colombo, Anuradha continued her secondary education in the US and obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and her Master of Science degree in Mass Communication from the University of Louisiana in the US.
