The rear of old Martin Hall

President Fletchers home.
It froze over once while I was in school. Maybe in early 2000. But it wasn't enough to skate on that's for sure.
We were able to throw rocks and see them poke holes in the ice. That's about it. No way we were gonna try and walk on it. I wanna say the air temp outside was in the teens...and we were working parking on the boulevard. Was not a fun day.
The pic with the ice skaters is beyond awesome.....like it could be set in New England or something lol.
I could be wrong, but I do not think it was as deep as it is today, so easier to freeze. Still very cool.
In January 1962 the temp was in the mid teens during finals but I didn't remember cypress lake freezing enough to skate. About ten years prior the lake froze enough to skate and one of the national magazine had a photo similar to the one above.
Dupre Library, 1962
Life Magazine showed ice skaters on Cypress Lake in 1962.
The hardest thing to believe is that these people just dusted off their ice blades from their closets and went skating?? I don't know one person who has a pair of ice skates (in Louisiana)...weird
