    Edith Garland Dupré.
Ms. Dupre was a member of the first faculty at Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (now, the University of Louisiana ... at Lafayette). She taught English and French, and oversaw the operation of the library.

I have spent many a research hour in Edith's inner rooms.

I saw a student strut his stuff in a streak in front of Edith's place in 1974.

Ms Dupre', after retirement, had a bookstore that she named Sans Souci. I can remember buying a few books there as a kid, and recall how diminutive she was, maybe just over 5 feet.

And when she drove her car, she could barely see over the steering wheel. The painting in the library must be close to life sized.

Sans souci= carefree or possibly worry free.

A cool video recently posted on youtube and FB: the first part features downtown, but it ends with a drive through campus. Other than stating it is in 1960's, it doesn't give a specific date. However, from the looks of it, it seems to be very early 1960's.
Oh, and it has a great soundtrack to boot.

I have ask this question many time and never got an answer that I thought was correct. What I would like to know is, "how many movie theaters were there on Jefferson street"? As a young boy I same to remember five. The Jefferson and Azalea I think everyone knows. I think I know two more, the Loit and the Royal. Was there a Lowe? Jefferson was the hub of the entertainment in Lafayette. Every week on Saturday was all day at the Azalea for either Roy Rogers or Jean Autry. Of course Lash LeRou comes to mind......Just trying to live in the past. It is sure better than the present and future.

Well, I don't know if you are on FB, but there is a great group on it called 'Lafayette Memories,' and according to that there were at least four....don't know about the Lowe's though.
