    Default Payton makes Team USA U19 World Championship Roster

    Confirmed by Travis Webb

    @travisjwebb
    Just confirmed through @ULRaginCajuns that Elfrid Payton has made the 12 man roster for Team USA U19 Championships in Prague later in June.

  2. Ragin' Cajuns Payton Named To USA Basketball U19 Team

    Elfrid Payton may have been one of the last players invited to the USA Basketball U19 tryouts this week, but that proved to be no indication of his ability to impact the team. Payton was named late on Monday night as one of 12 players that will represent the United States in the FIBA World Championships. The championships will be played from June 27-July 7 in Prague, Czech Republic.

    Here's part of the release from USA Basketball:

    The 12-man USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team roster was announced Monday following the evening training session and features eight players with prior USA Basketball experience including five players from last summer’s USA U18 Championship Team that captured gold. The 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship will be held June 24-July 6 in Prague, Czech Republic. USA U19 Team members must be 19-years-old or younger (born on or after Jan. 1, 1994) and a U.S. citizen to be eligible for this team.

    Selected for the USA U19 World Championship Team were Michael Frazier (University of Florida/Tampa, Fla.); Aaron Gordon (Archbishop Mitty H.S./San Jose, Calif.); Jerami Grant (Syracuse University/Bowie, Md.); Montrezl Harrell (University of Louisville/Tarboro, N.C.); Jahlil Okafor (Whitney Young H.S./Chicago, Ill.); Elfrid Payton (University of Louisiana at Lafayette); Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State University/Flower Mound, Texas); Jarnell Stokes (University of Tennessee/Memphis, Tenn.); Rasheed Sulaimon (Duke University/Houston, Texas); Mike Tobey (University of Virginia/Monroe, N.Y.); Nigel Williams-Goss (Findlay Prep/Happy Valley, Ore.); and Justise Winslow (St. Johns H.S./Houston, Texas).

    Huge news for Elfrid. By the judgment of Jim Boeheim, Billy Donovan and several other high level coaches, these are the 12 of the best basketball players in America that are 19 and under.

    Bodes well for Elfrid's draft chances.

    Very proud to be a Cajun fan right now. Elfrid works his but off in the class room and on the court. This is well deserved!
