The Astros selected Mark Appel with the No. 1 pick in the draft believing they would have no problem signing the former Stanford righthander. A week after taking Appel, the Astros are on target to agree to terms with the Houston native. No deal is imminent, but the Astros could reach an agreement with Appel as soon as next week, and the club doesn’t expect negotiations to last more than a few weeks.
