I'm moving to Dubai in August and I can tell you that they are not very strict at all. In regards to alcohol, the only laws about sobriety apply only to Muslims. Other than that, you can drink to your hearts content as long as you don't make public displays in the streets.
85% of the city are not Emirati, so it caters largely to foreigners. Y'all come visit.

I'm actually going there to get my MBA. Cost of living in regards to food and retail isn't too bad comparatively thanks to the strength of the USD vs the AED, but housing is pretty expensive and is typically paid annually at the beginning of your lease. Luckily my school gave me a housing stipend that will cover most of the cost.
It's a one year program, so you guys might not see me on here for long periods of time haha. I'll be in Dubai for nine months, then likely rotating to Boston to finish up.
