  1. Default UL Graduate is named Coach of the Year

Richard Alan Sandusky, native of Lumberton, was recently named Coach of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, (LSWA) and the Louisiana Softball Coaches Association (LSCA).

Sandusky is the grandson of Clarence and Betty Cleveland of Lumberton and son of the late Dwight (Skip) Sandusky.

Sandusky, who attended Lumberton High School from 1992 to 1996, made his way to Louisiana on a football scholarship to University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly University of Southwestern Louisiana). There he played as a "Raging Cajun" and lettered all four years after red-shirting his first year.

In 2001, Sandusky graduated from ULL with a degree in General Studies and was offered an assistant football and head girls softball coaching position, as well as a World Geography and Introduction to Business teaching position at Hanson Memorial High School in Franklin, La.

Congratulations to Coach Sandusky. Good to see a former Cajun doing well in the coaching ranks.
