KANSAS CITY – Rookie Astros manager Bo Porter, one of three African American managers in baseball, received a loud ovation after the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum’s Legends Luncheon on Friday afternoon at the Bruce Watkins Cultural Center. “We’re tremendously honored,” said Bob Kendrick, the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. “First and foremost he’s a fine young manager who just happens to be African American. “Again, you hope that the opportunities that he has been given will continue to perpetuate itself so that other minorities will get the opportunity to manage at the highest levels.
