In that case I agree with you; they will / should be in the top half of the conference. I expect WKU to be very good, USA could be; we are getting in some new teams that we know nothing about yet. GSU came in on some of the spring sports and really did well ... they may be a force.

It does look promising for basketball, the most it has in quite a while!

I want to throw this thought out there; basketball has been hurt at UL in the past two years because of the success in football ... it used to be that half-way through the football season fans would start turning their attention to basketball, hoping THEY would have a good season to make us forget about football. Now, people aren't forgetting about football at all AND they aren't thinking about basketball until about half-way through their season. That makes it even more difficult to cultivate fans, especially if you aren't having a good season.

Expecting to have a good season helps fans transition from football season ... I am hoping this is the year we sit at the top in quite a few sports in the Sunbelt!

No loss with Barnett, he never showed me much when he played.

Here is what I think, the starting 5 next year should look like this, barring any of the new players coming in taking over starting spots are:

Payton
Long
Mbamblu
Brown
Moore

I think that is one of the best starting 5's in the SBC. If any of the bench players can come along, i think we will be fine. Getting Brown back is like a new recruit for us, considering he played very little due to injury last year.

I am cautiously optomistic that next season could be the best season we have had in years. We have 2 legit 1st team all conference SBC players and I believe 2 more potential 2nd teamers.

I would be surprised Moore starts at the four spot as he was just outmanned last year. I would not be surprised to see him start at the three spot in a defensive stopper role. I see one of the three incoming big men starting at the 4. I don't know which one but I would guess it would be Jackson. I see Brown and Rimmer coming off the bench at the guard spots and both playing significant minutes. Regarding the roster; Leblanc, Lazare, and Williams are walkons and you never know which of those will return. There were 14 scholarship players listed and at least one has to leave due to the 13 scholarship limit.

Basketball has hurt itself! Payton and Long have been carrying this team. Its up to Marlin to get some more players on our team and get them ready to play. The turnover of Marlin teams has been perplexing. Its sort of like we'll try this guy and if he doesn't work out - Oh well! I'm still not use to his style and as far as I am concerned he still has NOT earned either his raise or his extension. I hope you are right cause it seem we start over again each year. Ask yourself this question - Did Hudspeth hurt Robichaux or Lotief with their team goals???

Marlin has done a part of what Willis wants, get more players as we signed 5 new guys between the fall and spring periods. Getting them ready to play is the next step.

Until we build strong individual sport fan bases you won't have that problem. By they way go check out most of your major football programs basketball attendance early while football is going on and see.

BB attendance will be better when the product on the court is better and winning, regardless of success of football. They don't play on Saturdays during football season.

They also struggled to stay eligible and graduate, under today's apr guidelines some of those teams would have cost us scholarships and postseason bans. Times are a lot different now, coaches have to be a lot more careful of the kinda kids they bring in. You are forced to recruit "student athletes"... Not guys who get pulled over smoking pot driving the wrong way down McKinley st.

We rarely do well until conference. I do recall Marty took the Kentucky Wildcats, and Cincinnati Bearcats to start off a good season only to have the American South officials to allow fouling and call it defense for UNO, Texas Pan Am, and Lamar.
