Who is 60 years young, still running races and has no intentions of quitting anytime soon?

That would be Sherman Stanford, a local attorney in Opelousas area, who recently competed in the National Senior Olympics Summer Games 10K road race held in Louisville, Ky.

In the event held on July 2, Stanford received a silver medal after placing second in the 60-to 64-year-old division.

"I love running," said Stanford, a former Louisiana-Lafayette (then-USL) graduate. "I feel like a human being when I run and not some old fogey."

Many years back, it seemed there was no chance Stanford would ever race again, after he was diagnosed with tachycardia at the age of 33. Tachycardia is a form of arrhythmia, which is a disorder of the heart's regular rhythmic beating.
