I know this is rare but the common factor with these teams is WINNING and Coach Hud has us doing that right now. Keep winning and people will notice. That is how we gain attention.
And go ask Hud what our name is. The answer won't fit your agenda

And we should know our place, right?

Man, you tanktop alumni and your schtick. I guess it's considered a classic in Refineryville much like the rest of the world views Abbott & Costello's "Whose on First?"

ULL does not "name" the the town so your point is moot*

"UL Lafayette" names the town but is illegal. Plus it makes it seem like the "L" in UL stands for Lafayette with repetitive emphasis. Add to that there is already a Lafayette College that is actually a University. Couple that with the fact that there are over 20 towns in the U.S. named either Lafayette or LaFayette, and you have total ambiguity and dilution if pride.

I cannot stand it when people, especially in NE LA always call UL "ULL"! Lake Providence where I live is mainly run by Grambling and Northeast/ULM alumni w/a few LSU heads mixed in and that is all they have ever called UL and ever will. I understand outsiders from outside of LA who will refer to the University as LA-Lafayette since the media has made it so since the name change from Southwestern. However, I swiftly correct anyone who refers to the University as ULL and I'll tell you why:

    1) My first time visiting the yard, I saw references to UL Lafayette and even the sign on the SW corners of Johnston & St Mary which display "University of Louisiana" in all caps and you can tell where Lafayette used to be. That alone gave me the impression as a prospective graduate student that I was entering THE established University of Louisiana and I will treat my now University with the same level of dignity.

    2) How many years did Louisiana State have if they wanted to change their name to The University of Louisiana before the 1984 name change? Ohio State is just fine being The Ohio State University and letting Ohio U co-exist as its own system w/o controversy; Florida and FSU co-exist though their histories have much different circumstances; why exactly did LSU feel insecure about letting Southwestern become UL? I know it's backwards for a "State University" institution to be established before a "University of" institution, but LSU had an entire 100 years to change its name to "The University of Louisiana" to reflect itself as the state flagship after Tulane privatized. I say as the 2nd largest university in the state of Louisiana, the largest in the UL System, and with prestigious classes of graduates, it is time to upgrade and treat ourselves with the dignity that being The University of Louisiana states.

    3) Since we are the largest in our own separate University of Louisiana System, we are the de facto flagship institution. It is not our fault that the University of Louisiana at Monroe wanted to be more popularly known just as ULM, even instead of UL Monroe. As a result, they placed themselves w/the nametag of just a regional institution just as UAB has done in Birmingham and without its own success they make for themselves, that is all ULM will ever be. And being a Mobile native, I will say.....NOBODY down here will EVER call Alabama "UAT"! So why should we be "ULL"? Why not be referred to as "Louisiana" or "The University of Louisiana"? Think About It!

I don't want to sound naive, but WHO in their right mind would claim to be a Tech Alum. Must be a veteran Sunday afternoon window shopper in UNscenic downtown Ruston. Nothing else to do there after church on Sundays. They are still reliving Terry Bradshaw.... Their famous scholor (with tongue in cheek) divorcee, wanna be country and western singer and almost NEVER winner over the USL Bulldogs.
