Thread: My best guess at the NCAA Baseball Tournament Regional Sites ...

    Hey Patches,
What makes you think this team will not make a regional (besides the fact you hate Robe)? We gotta top 25 RPI made it to the championship game of our conference tourney as a 3 seed. To be honest if our bullpen doesnt shape up it wont matter!!! Funny thing is our like your kid!

My opinion has not changed ... Baton Rouge. The only two regional sites within the preferred 400 mile radius for the Cajuns are Baton Rouge and Starkville.

South Alabama could go to Baton Rouge and Louisiana to Starkville. But why? Why send what will be considered a slightly stronger seed (from the same conference) to a top national seed (LSU) and send the slightly weaker #2 seed to a non-national seed (Starkville)? Mobile is also much closer to Starkville than Lafayette.

Both South Alabama and Troy could go to either Starkville or Tallahassee (but obviously not together). Mobile to Starkville and Troy to Starkville is about the same distance (Mobile closer by about ten miles). But Troy is much closer to Tallahassee than Mobile is to Tallahassee. I could see Alabama going as a #2 seed to Florida State with Troy there as a #3 seed. That said, Florida Atlantic could be in Tallahassee as a #2 seed (but this is 40 miles outside the preferred radius of 400 miles) and Florida there as a #3 seed. Meanwhile, Troy is also within driving distance of Columbia SC and Nashville, TN.

Now there is one possible scenario where I see the Cajuns in Starkville ...

Rice goes to Baton Rouge as the #2 seed (the only site where Rice can go that is within 400 miles). Louisiana goes to Starkville as the #2 seed. South Alabama goes to Tallahassee as the #2 seed. Troy goes to Nashville or Columbia as a #3 seed. All of these would be within the 400 mile preferred radius (all bus trips). Certainly possible.

Explain the comment about "my kid". I'm just not absolutely sure that 4 teams make it from our conference. The "fact that I hate Robe" doesn't really factor in my thinking as to whether UL makes a regional. If we make it, great. I'm just not as positive as everybody else that we are already in.

---OK next question---Do we want to go to St-Ville???? If there is no place for Rice your observation for their going to BR seems very logical---Oh and thanks for making this so interesting!!!

Brian - Any way we get disrespected and go to baton rouge as the #3 seed behind Rice?

Earlier you said you have "source in the know" that said we might not be in. Now you're taking credit for this belief. This leads me to believe you have no idea what you're talking about and you're just making this up.

Side note if UL doesn't get in, there will be riots in the streets

I would prefer to go to Starkville over Baton Rouge ... simply from the standpoint that the Cajuns have a better chance of advancing. But both regionals will be difficult.

Rice finished with an RPI rank of #32. With Rice winning both CUSA titles, I believe they are a #2 seed ... despite the 0-4 record vs. the RPI Top 50. It will be interesting to see if the NCAA sends Rice to Baton Rouge as the #2 seed.

I would be quite surprised if this happens. My calcs show the Cajuns finished with an RPI rank of #21 (.5687). But given that I have the Cajuns a mere .0001 ahead of Georgia Tech and .0004 ahead of Arizona State, I want to see the official RPI from the NCAA. Even at #23, I do not see the Cajuns as a #3 seed. Especially given the respectable 7-6 record vs. the RPI Top 50. For example, Rice is 0-4 ... which I think is the only thing that potentially keeps them from a #2 seed.

I would rate Louisiana as about the 6th to 8th strongest #2 seed.

From another angle ... I do not see the NCAA punishing LSU with both Louisiana and Rice.

I would love for the Cajuns to go to BR and beat them at their place, but I don't think I cod take a 2002 redux. I'm already starting to hear it from d-bag co-workers and friends that love the purple mess.
