While Oklahoma won the Big XII Tournament title, I think they are a long shot given their RPI rank of about 34.

Arkansas is less of a long shot, but an RPI rank of #32, some bad losses, and the unwillingness to play on the road in non-conference play should penalize them.

I did not include Miami and Ole Miss as possibilities due to a losing conference record and being outside the RPI Top 16.

Arizona State should not get the nod over UCLA due to being at minimum 6 spots back in the RPI and finishing five games behind UCLA in the Pac 12.

South Alabama would be a gift, especially considering their 2-5 record vs. the RPI Top 25 and 5-11 record vs. the RPI Top 50.

As for Clemson ...

I think it is possible that UCLA does not host (looks like Clemson's competition) ... but I think their resume is about as good as that of Clemson ... and I also think a fourth western regional makes sense.

The reason why I think Clemson is at real risk is that South Carolina is already going to host and you have the following regional sites in that area of the country ...

South Carolina
North Carolina
North Carolina State
Vanderbilt
Virginia
Florida State
Louisville
Virginia Tech

Clemson would be a ninth school in that region of the country, making six host regionals from the ACC. It would also leave the west with only three regionals.

At minimum, the following western schools must be slotted somewhere ...

Oregon State, Oregon, Cal State-Fullerton, UCLA, Arizona State, Cal Poly, San Diego, San Diego State, and likely New Mexico.

Yes, San Diego State just busted someone's bubble.

You also have UCSB, San Francisco, and Arizona as possibilities.

It just seems like four regionals may be needed out west.

And while UCLA dropped 2/3 to Stanford this weekend ... it is not like Clemson is setting the world on fire ... losing their last five games.

I am not putting a field together. But I am not convinced that Arkansas hosting really impacts Louisiana in any meaningful way (except that Central Arkansas could go to Fayetteville instead of Baton Rouge). Candidates for a Fayetteville regional would be Oklahoma State or Oklahoma (one, but not both) and Central Arkansas. You could have the same field with Oklahoma hosting (Arkansas, Central Arkansas). UTSA and Rice are just outside the 400 mile radius of Norman, Oklahoma. Sam Houston State (if they make the field) would be a candidate for a Norman, OK regional ... as well as Baton Rouge.

Both Rice and Louisiana would be outside the 400 mile radius of both Fayetteville, Arkansas and Norman, Oklahoma.
