WELSH, La. (AP) - Residents of Welsh could be paying more for electricity for the first time in a decade under a city proposal unveiled this past week.
Mayor Carolyn Louviere tells The American Press (http://bit.ly/cseYHv ) that city officials feel the rate adjustments cannot be avoided.
Louviere said consultants have been recommending rate increases for some time.
The proposed increase would cost the town's 1,700 residential and commercial electric customers less than $10 for every 1,000 kilowatts used.
Even with the increase, Louviere says, the town's rates will be lower than in many surrounding towns.
A public hearing on the proposal will be held on June 4.
If the Town Council approves the change, the new rates would appear on July or August bills, Louviere says.
