After game observations from Tiger Park

Park comparisons at the top of the food chain are full of hair splitting and biased opinion. Having said that, here's my opinion. I watched the Cajuns here in the Austin Regional. I have been to Lamson. I have not visited Tiger Park. Based on the UT comparison, I think Lamson must be one of the best parks in the country. Top 20. Though I have not seen many parks, it is reasonable to assume with UT's success and funding, their park is a premier park. I like Lamson better. I cried the first time I saw Lamson. The red-bricked theme is just beautiful...and collegiate. Our girls have the palace to match thier perfirmance. Bottom line: I'm sure arguments can be made for one park or another, but UL will not lose a recruit because of facilities. No way. Lamson is on par with the best.

I agree. Was recently at Texas A&M and while it is a nice park Lamson is better. We definitely have enough now to compete when it comes to softball facilities. You can certainly find nicer but the Cajuns are right up there. As you noted I can't imagine that we lose a recruit because of our softball facilties.

What will be even more impressive is finally getting all of the history on the brick wall entering the stadium that was originally planned and not executed as yet. Either outside or on the concourse, the WCWS years, Conference Championships, All-Americans, and Academic All-Americans should be listed. I'm also thinking there should be some space for retired jerseys.

Their park is all concrete, so that probably accounts for a large part of the difference. Note, though, that a significant part of the difference is that we did not start and build ours from scratch. We had no site prep...no moving of dirt...didn't have to build up the ground for the entrance ramp and burm...didn't have to build a parking lot...or put up lights...or build dugouts.

Their park is pretty, but comes across as cold. Lamson Park...to me...is nicer looking, has more character, and is more easily accessible...both to stands from entrance and from stands to concessions and restrooms. And the fact that there isn't all that grape and yella crap all over the place doesn't hurt Lamson either.

I like Lamson.

Seems to me that the roof gives it a modern look and is what distinguishes the Louisiana State softball stadium. Take away the roof line and the stadium is nothing special.

I think a tons of tradition and genuine passion contribute to the atmosphere of our park. Theirs reeks strongly of trying to overcompensate to be the 2nd best program in LA.

Having been to both stadiums, the only thing that Tiger Park beats Lamson at is that the dugouts are better. They also have indoor cages next to the stadium that they don't have to share with any other team. I can take or leave the berm but if given a choice, I would prefer to sit in bleachers than on grass.

I think what you can't see is very impressive. Office, lockers, meetng rooms, hallways adorned with accomplishments, etc. All of this intergrated with the stadium. Lamson is lacking in that department. But like someone said, Budget will do it every time......

I will try and post some pictures tomorrow of the game and afterwards. I am still spent from the day. I met several Ragin Pagins at the game.
Some say their softball fans are not as bad as the other sports, to that I say BS. I hate that school and that town even more and even with a victory.

I witnessed two very different reactions by defeated tiger fans yesterday. I saw one fan congratulate a UL fan and told him that he would be cheering for the Cajuns for as long as they are in the tournament. Then saw another tiger fan talking in a condescending tone to another tiger fan about how this is like our "Super Bowl" as if softball didn't really matter. Funny because he stayed until the final pitch of the game. Odd behavior for someone who didn't really care. I told him to cry me a damn river and to quit being a sore ____ing loser.
