Thread: UL Regional Radio

  1. #1

    Ragin' Cajuns UL Regional Radio

I'm sure this has been brought up in the past but here goes anyway.

After having to spend the day on the road, I was hoping to hear the Cajuns play in the regional tourney. Couldn't find the game ANYWHERE on the radio dial. Here it the question. If the university owns its own radio station, why isn't/aren't the regional games being announced on its OWN radio station for us! Same thing for today verses LSU!

The entire tournament is on 1420. Every Cajuns softball game for the past 2 years has been on the radio - first team in America that can say that. Also available on radiopup for Android and iPhone.

This is the point I was trying to make. If 1420 doesn't reach BR, why not put it on KRVS which would reach out to a wider audience for those that can't make the game(s)

I have an andriod phone. Radiopup cut out on me 27 times during the game. I tried 104.5 in BR and LSUsports.net but both require Adobe Flash Player which my phone doesn't support. Radiopup, what a sorry excuse for an app.

    1420 barely reaches Breaux Bridge.

It may be the specific client implementation (Android) or it could be your coverage. On the rare time that I have a problem in the Lake Travis area (west of Austin), it is because I am driving through some steep hills.

Eventually KPEL needs to seriously confront the AM 1420 situation as the surrounding areas to A-Ville B-Bridge Crowley Opelousas expand!!! Wish it were to happen sooner more so than later!!!

KRVS is licensed by the FCC as Non-Commercial or Public radio. Any "commercial" you may hear on KRVS is classified as a donation or is part of a business underwriting a program. Big difference between that and :30 second spots heard inside a commercial radio station broadcast. If someone were to underwrite the entire broadcast of a game it could be done....but then you have the contract between KPEL and UL standing in the way. If they were to make KRVS a part of the network, then the commercial breaks and the "Spidell Florist Strike out" sort of stuff would have to go. In the distant past, KRVS did broadcast USL sports with student announcers etc, and that was before the power was increased to where it is now.

Someone like Roarman should check KPEL out and see if they're powered up to 100% during the daytime...used to be you could hear the AM during daytime all the way to Cecilia and out over the basin. Different story at night, station is prevented from broadcasting at full range and power, FCC does this to allow spectrum room for some of the boomer AM's out there like WWL and others. But during the day, AM power shouldn't be an issue, at least it wasn't 15 years ago!

Speaking of broadcasting...big changes on the way for KADN. Stay tuned

It's definitely the app. Radiopup seriously needs to be retooled so that it works way more efficiently

What I meant is that the client specific implementation for Android may have more problems than iOS (the source code has differences). This is quite common in cross-platform applications, especial on mobile devices. I am not having these problems on iOS 5.
