Thread: Michael Allen

  1. UL Basketball Michael Allen

After a year in junior college, Allen transferred to Louisiana of the Sun Belt Conference. There, Allen led the Ragin Cajuns to two appearances in the NCAA tournament in both 1992 and 1994.

In his final year on the team, he averaged 22.7 points per game and was conference Player of the Year. He is still the only men's player in school history with that distinction and he is also currently eighth on the all-time scoring list at Louisiana.

  2. UL Basketball Allen hopes to bring back success to Frankfort High

Mike Allen was a Mr. Basketball runner-up at Bryan Station in 1989 and he later starred at Louisiana-Lafayette. As a player, Mike Allen was a proven winner.

Now he wants the same thing for his players at Frankfort High.

Allen was recently named as the new head basketball coach for the Panthers. He replaces Juan Byars, who spent just one season at FHS.

"I was a good player," said Allen, a 1989 graduate of Bryan Station High School. "I've always been on winning teams. That goes to me being a perfectionist, but as a coach, I want parents and players to know that I'm also approachable."

Allen might be modest as well. In fact, he's not just considered to have been a good player, but rather one of Lexington's best-ever hoops products.

As a playmaking guard, Allen competed in both the Sweet 16 and the NCAA tournaments.
