Thread: Tatford called up a notch

  1. UL Baseball Tatford called up a notch

Originally drafted in the 42nd round of the 2003 draft by the Chicago Cubs Jeff Tatford opted to go to college and as a result was drafted in the 15th round of this year’s draft by the Mets after an amazing senior year at the University of Louisiana. Hitting .351 with 10 home runs in his last year with the Ragin’ Cajuns, all while playing every position on the field expect pitcher, Tatford will easily remind many Mets fans of former utility man Joe McEwing.

However, after proving himself as a potent offensive force in college and collecting hits in three of his first four games as a Cyclone, Tatford hopes to put himself in a situation to get much more playing time than McEwing ever got at Shea.

  2. UL Baseball Tatford's are proud their son played baseball for UL

Four years ago, our son, Jefferies, was invited to become a member of the UL baseball team by Coach Tony Robichaux.

Having visited several other universities and programs throughout the country, Jefferies was absolutely sure that he had always dreamed of playing baseball for Coach Robichaux and UL and that this was right where he wanted to stay. When he officially met with Coach Robichaux to make that commitment, we were all warmly welcomed and told of the vision Coach had for the team, as well as how Jefferies could work hard to hopefully participate in that vision.

This was quickly followed by words of warning that while playing before a hometown crowd can be great, "Robe's Rules"of conduct on and off the field were even stricter than many players may be accustomed to. At a time when the news is filled with stories of college and professional athletes who exhibit behavior that is sometimes out of control, Coach Robe's words were music to our ears.

I agree totally, the Tatfords provided a wonderful well reared young man to UL , and Robe simply had a lot to work with in this young man. No doubt other families with outstanding young men should look at what the coaches at UL provide to their children.
