Time out...the majority of those schools that went to CUSA from the Sun Belt have been trying to copy our baseball and softball programs for years...even down to the stadiums we use. We were way ahead of the curve on Indoor Practice Facilities for mid major programs. Compared to other mid majors, and namely the ones getting into CUSA...we are not even close to worst.
The softball field yes, but the Cajundome is a dump and crap basketball arena. It is cavernous and with our awesome crowds it looks like a Tulane football game.
Troy's new arena is really nice and we should have something similar. 8500-9000 seats that are close to the action and a ceiling that you cannot bungee jump from would be nice.
Old scoreboard almost ready to come down.
Outside of softball and basketball we aren't close. Think quality and not quantity. We have been down in the list in SBC baseball for a while. Everyone knows the issues we have with T&F and soccer. Football....do I really need to explain. Athletic offices - worked well in the 70's but not so much today. Definitely behind the 8-ball for facilities.
I know the Master Plan is turning a lot of heads and people are taking notice. I was asked by quite a few people over the weekend that are grads of another school east of here and they were amazed that we could be doing this.
We are onto something really good right now; we just have to stay the course, "get shovels in the ground" and get the plan in action.
