Default Cajuns Sign Big Man But

You can only read about it if you pay. Damn the luck. Now if I was only not so cheap as to want to spend money to read the rest of the article, I would know the whole story. Guess I'll just miss out. Hey he does have the perfect first name: Vieux.

The Cajuns have signed a high school big man and you can read lots of details about it in the premium folder of the Cajun Red Zone. I expect you will hear about it in the conventional press in a few days. The signing has encouraged a few folks. As far as having to pay to learn more about this, CajunT does not make a profit on his site. He puts any extra cash he earns from it back into our athletic program.

If you want to read about him you can subscribe to the Advertiser, but oh yea, that costs money too, and it is a little later usually.

Or you can wait and the university will fill you in shortly for free.

As far as the first name and our French connection-----Well the language is almost a non part of the culture compared to what it was just 20 years ago----maybe more now speak Spanish than French---and that is a shame as we are encouraging the Spanish and would punish our forefathers for speaking French----I think that through the years we have wasted such a formable part of our recruiting in not going after the Francophone athlete!!!

I think our recruit will be awesome. I am just worried that about the basketball championships next spring. I sure hope he does not think they secured a whole district for him to have fun in, the Vieux Carr'e AKA French Quarter. Would be a shame if he showed up at Pat O'Briens for his team meeting. LOL

Send my basketball renewals, and some of you guys please drop yours, I want a better spot.

Marlin still has me worried, and I still prefer pressing defense and fast break basketball, but at least we have the numbers and promise of good things this season.

Hopefully with more inside depth, we will play at a faster pace next season. Very few teams in basketball anywhere press consistently anymore as teams have learned how to attack it. VCU made a living at pressing the last few years. Trey Burke of Michigan carved them up easily in the NCAA tournament when they tried that. Tournament was hard to watch this year with so many teams not being able to score 50 points. College basketball in general is not played at the high level of years past. You need your big guy to guard the basket when you press consistently and we were always in danger of Long getting in foul trouble to do that consistently. We will have more guys inside to take fouls next year so I expect we will press more often.

Louisville used a controlled press and won a national championship.

The Shockers collapsed from the pressure and were in the process of collapsing when OSU went into a full press.

The Cajuns do better when they are involved in full, and limited presses. We struggle in a set man to man where the opponent prods, and finds weaknesses.

As I said earlier, now that we will have more inside depth I expect we will play at a faster pace and use more pressure defense. We planned to do so at the beginning of this past season. The injury to Brown and the concern about Long's four trouble limited our ability to use that plan. Still, we were one of the top scoring teams in the league this past season. Unfortunately we were near the bottom as far as stopping scoring. Letting teams have too many offensive rebounds because of our limitations inside caused that problem. With three new inside guys, odds are we will have more means to limit those next season.
