IMO, South Alabama had every right to appeal whether or not she touched first. BUT if the ump didn't see whether or not she touched, then he has no right to call the runner out. A player or coach cannot dictate a call to an umpire or official on something that the official did not witness. That's true in every sport.
Having said that; on a stand up double, I really doubt that Draheim missed the bag.
The more I think about it...SD is a tall girl. She pretty much has to dig into the side of the bag if she wants to remain upright on her way to second. Oh well. What is the pitching strategy for FAU? I would like to see if they can get past FAU with a bullpen rotation.
listen, its not the umpires job to call her out as she rounded first on her way to second. he can see it clear as day if he wants. it is south alabamas job to see it and throw it back behind her and get the call at first. no way he makes that call if he isnt 150% positive she missed the bag. thats a base running error on a senior and it should have never happened.
frenchie, no way draheim scores on that error- she was at second base, any ball hit to the left side of the infield she would have held at second. she may have advanced to third when the ball got by the first baseman but no way she scores. i like our chances with runners on the corner and no body out, but she wouldnt have scored on that play itself. again as a senior, junior, sophomore or freshman, at this level you should not miss first on your way to second with a ball in the gap.
again, i am a huge cajuns fan, but i can also be objective and not think that the umpires were out to screw us. we got in our own way last night against a very good team, and when you do that, you wont win much of the time.
go out there today and get them ladies.
Actually, with Draheim at 2nd on no out I'm sure they would have had Haack bunt her to third and taken their changes with a fly out or hit to drive her in.
No, I edited my post; if (when) we win we will play WKU Saturday am and that winner (UL) will then play for the Championship.
