    UL Baseball 500 Home runs

How can 500 home runs not be what it once was? Only 21 have hit 500 HR and 27 have 3000 hits

    Default Re: 500 Home runs

I think the advent of today's performance-enhancing drugs and supplements in addition to smaller stadiums have taken away from the uniqueness of 500. Don't get me wrong, it's still an incredible feat because of the consistency it takes, but there could be as many as 15 new members to the club in the next year or two. I think 600 is the new 500, and 700 is the new 600. In today's game, 600 takes the consistency and longevity that even performance enhancers can't give you, and 700 is for the truly elite. I think in the next 10-15 years, as Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols (if he can stay healthy) approach and likely surpass the mark that Bonds will end at, 800 will become what 700 was for the past 100 years in that there will only be one or two players in that class ever.
