Track & Field Re: Lady Cajuns Track Signs Three Athletes

Wonderful!!!!! I wonder how Picou and Sills did at state in their respective events? This is a great start!

Fund raising wise my whole family tipically runs in the annual race at UL.

I sure hope things get popping in track and field.

This is so COOL Re: Renowned coach hired to lead UL track ( Steve Silvey )

A-State is not crying. They are bawling!

That will end, though, when they see their buddies form Fayetteville on probation within the year. Then they will be laughing their asses off.

The Hogs on probation? In track? I'm not holding my breath. That will happen right after LSU gets the death penalty for academic improprieties in the Athletic Department.

Cajunred, the potshot at Lance was uncalled for. Veazey is a good sprint/hurdles coach. He ran and coached at Blinn and was an assistant at Texas before coming to UL. While I won't argue over his merits as a head coach, I will say that it is unfair to judge him based on what our new coach accomplishes.

The new coach is a great coach, but he will also have at least 4 times the resources any prior track coach has had. His ASSISTANTS will be making significantly more than what UL paid Lance to be a head coach, and I'd be willing to bet he will have a little money made available to him for minor wants like equipment and travel expense, something which none of his predecessors enjoyed.

Charlie Mahfouz won six state championships
during his 18-year high school coaching career

LOUISIANA La. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns head track and field coach Steve Silvey announced the addition of local high school track and field coaching legend Charlie Mahfouz as a volunteer coach Tuesday.

During his 18-year high school coaching career, Mahfouz won six Louisiana state championships. He began his career as the head track coach at Eunice High School from 1984-92. He led the Bobcats to five St. Landry Parish and district championships, while capturing three regional and Class 3A state titles in 1990, 1991 and 1992.

After spending nine years in Eunice, Mahfouz headed east to Opelousas High where he guided the Tigers to a St. Landry Parish championship in each of his nine seasons. His squads also captured six district and five regional crowns.

In his inaugural season at OHS, his Tigers squad finished as the Class 4A runner-up in 1993. His program would later capture three straight state championships from 1998-2000.

Mahfouz coached Ubeta Anderson, a high school All-American in the 110-meter hurdles. She is the state composite record holder with a time of 13.75 in the 110-meter discipline. She later became the national indoor champion in the 55-meter hurdles.

In addition to Anderson, Mahfouz also coached Tommy Fay, Jacques Prudhomme and Devery Henderson. Fay, a four-year letterwinner at UL from 1993-96, won the 110-meter hurdle state championship during his prep career at Eunice High.

Like Fay, Prudhomme, the 800-meter state champion at Eunice, was a four-year letterwinner at UL from 1993-96.

Henderson, a former standout athlete at Opelousas High, was the Louisiana state championship in both the 100- and 200-meter events from 1998-2000. Henderson later lettered in track and football at Louisiana State and is currently a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints.

Ubita Anderson is a he. Ran at Florida from what I can recollect.

Nice pick up for the program.
