  3. Track & Field UL Track Season Comes to End at Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A successful track and field season for Louisiana came to a disappointing end as three Ragin' Cajuns were unable to qualify in the finals of their respective events at the NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by the University of Arkansas.

Roderick Houston (Dallas, Texas) posted a time of 10.54 in the prelims of the 100-meter dash, finishing 22nd. Earlier this season, Houston had qualified for the event with a season-best time of 10.48 at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Later in the qualifying round, Houston set a new season-best time of 21.25 in the 200-meter dash prelims, also posting a 22nd-place finish.

His time of 21.25 clipped his previous season-best time of 21.30 which he also set at the SBC Track and Field Championships. Houston was the lone Cajun to qualify for multiple events.

Fellow Texan Stacey Fuller (Dallas, Texas) clocked a time of 53.53 in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 21st in the preliminary round.

Taryn Simmons (Eagan, Minn.), the only representative from the Ragin' Cajuns women's team, finished 21st in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:01.11.

A successful track and field season for Louisiana it was not. Not being dead last is refreshing, but it was another dismal year set up when the admin flushed the program in 2002. Every negative action (or inaction) they have taken has consequences lasting for YEARS! As proof, this is 2008 and something they didn't do right in 2002 is still kicking us in the hind quarter. Hopefully, Farmer et al will do someting positive and make a good hire, with the last 2 fiascos serving as lessons on what NOT to do.
